Beware: do NOT use commercial oven cleaners or products that contain bleach or ammonia. It is recommended to unplug your cooker before cleaning to avoid any chance of electric shock. Look below for the level of grime you need to remove and follow cleaning instructions accordingly.
Minimal grime
For light stains or splashes that have yet to dry down, you could easily tackle the microwave with warm water and dish soap. Just grab whatever mild dishwashing liquid you have and use a damp cloth or paper towel to wipe down the appliance’s in- or exterior. Another easy and thorough cleaning could be achieved by microwaving a bowl of water and dish soap. Set it to one minute or until it gets steamy inside. Remove the bowl wipe down the inside with a damp sponge.
Moderate grime
For messes that are a bit tougher, mix 1 cup of water with 2 tablespoons of white or apple cider vinegar, and then microwave for five minutes. Wait an additional five minutes before opening the appliance’s door, and then wipe the interior and/or door with a sponge or paper towel. If you need an extra push, an all-purpose, grease-cutting cleaner, like Simple Green All-Purpose Cleaner can get the job done.
Maximum grime
To combat the most stubborn of grime and stains, use a combination of 1 cup water and 2 tablespoons baking soda, microwaved on high for two minutes. Use a cloth or sponge to wipe down when done. For added deodorization, microwave 1 teaspoon of lemon juice and 1 cup of water on high for two minutes, wipe down when done and leave the door open for a couple minutes. If after all that work you still need a boost of sanitization, get yourself a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser and wipe down the in- or exterior of your appliance. Remove the turntable and run it through the dishwasher or soak and clean in a sink of sudsy water.
